I've been waiting for this day for far too long! We've been lucky enough to have been selected and have this featured on Style Me Pretty Living so now I can finally reveal this to all of you! Some of you might remember a sneak peek I posted a few months back with a little fondant dragon... well that little dragon was part of the decor for a 'Paper Bag Princess' themed cake and sweet table setup I collaborated on with my friend and owner Heidi of Heidi Lau Photography for her daughter's 2nd birthday.
At first Heidi only wanted to have a cake made for little Kali since they weren't having a big party. But after hearing the theme, I had to convince her to do a sweet table based on the theme since it was one of our all time favorite children's book... and thank goodness it didn't take much to have her convinced. We went to work right away since her birthday was only a week away and with it being a last minute decision. The colors Heidi chose were different shades of yellow, white, kraft and accents of gold. Heidi agreed to do the DIY deco part (thank goodness she is creative and artistic!) including the banners, tassel streamers and hand painted back drop which was a scene taken from the book. My job of course, was to create the spread for the sweet table.
For the main cake I recreated a scene from the book with the the dragon, castle and of course Paper Bag Princess that resembles little Kali. For the rest of the desserts we have meringue kisses, lemon and Funfettie cupcakes adorned with gold fondant crowns, cake pops and lastly one of our favorite part of the spread, butter shortbread cookies with hand stamped quotes from the book... the quotes were chosen by Heidi since they were the ones that little Kali recites every night during story time...
Other elements were lemonade for the glass milk bottles, various candies and the lovely baby's breathe bouquets that looked like cherry blossom trees besides the castle cake. Oh and since my princess cake pops were one of the all time favorites... I had to make a PBP version for little Kali! And you have to see how adorable little Kali was in her little A-line dress and gold crown hairpin! It was definitely one of the cutest party idea I've seen and participated in so far. And all of it were captured by the talented photographer/supermom/partymama Heidi! To view the full album of this party you can check out the Style Me Pretty Living blog post. And for those of you not familiar with this book by Robert Munsch, you can find out more about it here on the official website. I highly recommend it especially if you have little girls.
